Bleed is experienced by a player when their thoughts and feelings are influenced by those of their character, or vice versa. With increasing bleed, the border between player and character becomes more and more transparent. It makes sense to think of the degree of bleed as a measure of how separated different levels of play (actual/inner/meta) are.

Pictured: The sole survivor from an expedition beyond a Door, Clarity remembers nothing about who she was, what she was doing, or why she was in the Order. She suspects, due to the pitying looks and open revulsion or fear that so many people express on seeing her, that she is a warning to others. That instructions and protocol must be followed or you become another Miss Clarity Veritas.Clarity is working hard to remaster her power and prove them all wrong. Who she was has nothing on who she will be.Clarity is sweet and hardworking (albeit totally fine with general Order practices of arcane slavery and general issues like that—she doesn’t really know any better at this point). She’s a warm, bright spot of sunshine in a dark library. She oh-mi-goshes and hypes people up about their magic and rituals. She...absolutely would hurt a fly because honestly they are a pest in the library and why shouldn’t she?When Clarity’s Accident happened, it wasn’t so much that she lost her mind, or had it erased. It was that her ego shattered into a thousands of tiny, crystal shards and were scattered to realms of reality and beyond. This not a fresh gaping wound. Clarity has had time to pick up some basic skills and get the hang of being in and around Oldcross (again). While there's still people who remember who Clarity once was, it's been long enough that those memories are starting to get a little fuzzy. The Clarity of the now is probably not something that jump scares the old guard anymore, and life has moved on, as it must.!!!!NOTE: Unbeknownst to Clarity, there is a gag order on her past from someone in the ranks of the Enlightened (or higher) within Oldcross. Clarity can find information on who she once was on her own, but no one else is allowed disseminate such information to her, or to try to directly impart specific information to her. This would ruin the nature versus nurture experiment they are conducting on her, of course.Miss Veritas walks a fine line of one having been a ruthless magus on the way to the highest echelons of Oldcross Hierarchy and Society...to learning to cast again like a newborn lamb. How much does she remember? Will she ever be as she was? Does it matter?

The Magus of Today & Tomorrow

An amnesiac after an accident where she was the sol survivor, Clarity is a mystery to herself. She’s not a new member of the Atelier and perhaps others knows more about her than she’s figured out for herself, but who she was before may never be the person she IS again.Clarity, once a powerful mage in her own right, can struggle to light a lamp with magic today, though her divination is remarkably strong. She primarily studies what she calls “Distance Made Closer” and the “Dark Between the Stars”—Clarity’s bastardization of her own old research, though she is currently not aware that she is the author.She also holds a small fascination bordering on obsession with enchantments and artifacts made of...organic materials. Monster parts, beastie bits, or the hearts of men--Clarity is drawn to how the life, death, and biological make up of her ingredients affect the sympathetic output.Additionally, every so often...there’s a Disturbance beyond a Door and what the expeditionary team sometimes finds at the heart of it is...a Shard of Clarity. When returned to her, it seems Clarity remembers a little more about herself, though much and most of who she was is gone (and eclipsed by who she is now).What did Clarity’s expedition discover? What did she see? Why was she the only survivor? And why are her memories scattered around dimensions they have no business being in?

Shattered Memories Underfoot.

Prerequisite: Please reach out to me OOC to work together to plot a suitable disturbance/adventure!Clarity’s mind was a powerful thing. There is an argument, to some, that it still is, but the empirical evidence lies in the shattered pieces of her mind: Where they settle, Disturbances begin to form. Often times, this means the Order needs to send a squad out to retrieve and return the memory shard to Clarity. These expeditions are on the source, other stars, other reflections, other dimension—you name it.Clarity’s memories are an adventure MacGuffin! Feel free to use them to write an adventure of your own, or to DM me to request an adventure hook or DM’d for you!

Prerequisite: NoneClarity is a talented diviner, even if she doesn’t pull the punches her cards and runes dish out. She also follows the advice she gets from them to a T, and is very superstitious about signs and portents. Still, she’s been getting a name for herself from unsual, late night, free…and super accurate readings. Even if she does seem to relish the bad ones a little too much.If you can find her and ask for it, Clarity will gladly perform a reading for you. She usually frames her readings as “advice” and not “predictions”, but they trend towards the scarily accurate anyways.

Relearning the Ropes

Prerequisite: NoneAKA “No question left unasked.” Clarity is learning everything. Again. From working as a living rubber duck for powerful magi, to practicing basic spell craft on her own, Clarity is interested in all sorts of magic. Show her something she doesn’t know (and she doesn’t know most things), and she will listen attentively and hype you up on your research! A quick learner, she only really needs to see something once to grasp it enough to at least ask more questions about it, if not practice it later herself.Clarity will be an enraptured audience for magical lectures. Need someone to practice magic with? Ask Clarity! Need an arcane sparring partner? Ask Clarity! Want someone to point out the logical fallacies in your paper? Ask Clarity! Two sets of eyes are better than one, after all.

Prerequisite: None.From Anthropodermic books to the studying and preserving finger bones of long dead saints, Clarity has been developing a knack for turning dead people into effective, magical tools. She works on bits of beast and man alike—though if you are giving her something soulless to work with, it had better be impressive and special to make it worth her time.Clarity is learning to be an enchanter, specializing in utilizing the remains of powerful creatures to build and power her artifacts. Killed something or someone and want to put them to good use? Clarity can probably do that for you, though she might ask for something in return...
